3D Repo, Basestone, others discuss their work at Arup-hosted British Information Modelling

A perfect opening event for Digital Construction Week - which followed later in the week - British Information Modelling saw a lively discussion between the audience and a panel comprising of Cobus Bothma and Martin Coyne of KPF, Shaun Farrell of Turner&Townsend and Andrew Norrie of Graphisoft.

The BIM-focused event was organised by 3D Repo, the company behind the multi-award winning technology that allows complex BIM datasets from multiple sources to be stored and easily accessed anywhere via the web.  Speakers discussed developments that improve collaboration between architects, developers, engineers and contractors and the business benefits that can be gained.

The event also witnessed new innovations from 3D Repo, CartoConsult, Sablono  and  Basestone.  Sablono described how their technology tracks building components including pre-fabricated units from source to build, to facilitate lean construction techniques.  Cartoconsult explains how Skanska had employed Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to manage projects in London with the creation of an interactive 3D city model.  Meanwhile, Basestone illustrated how engineers were transforming the way they issue, review and manage their drawings and data across construction projects.

About sponsors:

Sablono

Sablono was founded as a spin-off from the Technical University of Berlin. It was here where most of the founders met at a research project aimed at improving the planning of complex construction processes. After developing a first prototype in 2014, Allplan GmbH, High-Tech Gründerfonds as well as Hasso Plattner Ventures joined as investors and partners. Today, the team consists of ten passionate and highly motivated professionals delivering value to construction companies in various countries.

CartoConsult

CartoConsult provides a mix of bespoke services, consultancy, software solutions and data to government authorities, traditional Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) clients as well as to organisations in new markets such as Leisure, Tourism and Advertising, where geospatial technology can be deployed to create unique value.

Basestone

BaseStone helps engineering professionals achieve greater efficiencies through the elimination of wasteful and non-productive activities that are currently present within the construction industry. This is done through the digital mobilisation of engineers - transforming the way they issue, review and manage their drawings and data across construction projects. The mobile and web-based collaboration tool helps connect professionals throughout the construction industry, both on-site and in the office, and enables them to be more productive with their time.

3D Repo

3D Repo, a spinout of UCL PLC, is a multi-award winning open source software for Building Information Modelling in the cloud. Instead of architects, consultants and contractors sharing massive proprietary files in a costly and time-consuming manner, they can simply point their web browser to an encrypted online repository in order to examine each project stage virtually, even on mobile devices. More than 40 different 3D file formats are decomposed and federated in the company’s big data repository. The 3D Repo team has collaborated on a number of large-scale projects with companies such as ARUP, Balfour Beatty and British Telecom.
